New Legislation
The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, which implement the majority of the Grenfell Tower Fire Inquiry recommendations, came into force on 23 January 2023. These regulations include new requirements for mid and high-rise blocks of flats to provide information to fire and rescue services to assist them with operational planning and provide additional safety measures. In all multi-occupied residential buildings, residents should now be provided with fire safety instructions and information on fire doors. In mid-rise residential buildings (over 11 metres), responsible persons will be required to undertake annual checks of flat entrance doors and quarterly checks of all fire doors in the common parts.
The Company
Fire prevention southeast LTD was incorporated in 2022 by Mr. Isaac Hirsch. Fire prevention SE is dedicated to providing guidance and certification for homes in all types of residential buildings. Due to an acute housing shortage, many buildings of different shapes and sizes have been converted into residential use. A large majority of conversions are at a higher risk of fire and smoke spread due to the changes from the building’s originally intended usage. Changes normally found include newly installed compartments and restricted escape routes. The most likely location of a fire breakout is inside the kitchen/cooking area of a residential flat. Most fires are extinguished quickly before they cause harm. However, some break out whilst the flat is vacant. For this reason, we recommend never leaving a flame or cooking equipemnt unattended. To protect other residents it is crucial that fire and smoke can not quickly enter escape routes blocking a potential emergency evacuation. The main entrance door to a flat is the most vital installation to help prevent the quick spread of fire and smoke. In many blocks of flats, extra communal fire doors are installed to protect escape routes from being quickly overwhelmed with smoke. Residents may be unaware of the risks posed to their safety as a result of fire door faults which have occured due to wear and tear or poor installtions. The first step for a responsible person/management of a building would be to conduct /arrange a Fire risk assessment by a competent /registered assessor. An FRA would flag up potential hazards and would request certification for firefighting equipment and fire prevention measures. Mr Isaac Hirsch has been certified by the FPA to have successfully completed the fire door course C17C and passive fire protection course C18. Isaac is a current member of the Fire Protection Association.
